How Infrared Inspection Windows Work
An IR window is installed into an electrical enclosure at a location that provides a clear thermal view of critical components. During an inspection, the thermographer views the equipment through the window with an infrared camera and looks for abnormal temperature patterns or electrical hot spots. Elevated temperatures can indicate loose connections, excessive resistance, overloaded circuits, deteriorating components, or other developing electrical problems. Thermal anomalies can then be documented and compared with previous inspection results to help maintenance teams determine whether equipment conditions are changing over time.
IR windows are particularly useful on electrical switchgear, switchboards, motor control centers, distribution panels, and other equipment that may otherwise require opening an enclosure for inspection.
