Infrared Inspection Ports provide a fixed viewing location through which an infrared camera can scan critical electrical components. Thermal imaging can identify abnormal heat patterns associated with loose connections, excessive electrical resistance, overloaded circuits, deteriorating components, and other developing problems. Because the same inspection port can be used during subsequent inspections, thermographers can capture thermal images from a consistent location, angle, and distance, providing more repeatable information for predictive maintenance and equipment condition monitoring.
How Infrared Inspection Ports Work
An electrical IR inspection port is installed in an electrical enclosure at a location selected to provide a useful thermal view of internal components. During an inspection, a certified thermographer uses an infrared camera to view the equipment through the port while the enclosure remains closed. Depending on the equipment, inspection targets may include circuit breakers, bus connections, cable terminations, disconnects, and other electrical connections that can develop abnormal heat.
By providing permanent access for thermal imaging, IR inspection ports can make scheduled electrical infrared inspections more efficient and repeatable.
